Project Management Roles & Responsibilities

First, I will work to understand all aspects of your project, build custom solutions to move it forward, and implement a plan to complete it on time, in scope, and on budget.   In addition, I have worked with a range of project methodologies including Agile, iterative development, standard waterfall, RUP and custom methodologies.

I will provide oversight and leadership in executing projects from planning to completion. Daily tasks can include managing budgets, resources and relationships to achieve organizational objectives, as well as planning, developing and executing schedules to ensure timely completion of projects.

Furthermore, I help define and monitor each team member’s role and function, and coordinate all team activities throughout the life-cycle of a project. Identifying and managing project risks and developing solutions are additional duties.

During the execution of a project, I will analyze data, and identify trends and inefficiencies to prevent problems from arising. Provide roadmaps and periodic recommendations to senior management, finally the creation and implementation of mitigation and contingency plans.

As you can see I have been running successful projects since 1994 focusing on Web/Internet Technologies as well as Content Management Systems.

Project Documents

Many documents are created in the profession of project management. Some of these are critical to the successful completion of the project, and others are merely intended for organizing the work flow.

There are many places you can find samples of project documents. I work with you and your companies standard document templates. If additional templates are needed I recommend utilizing the PMBOK as one valuable resource.

Project Management Tools and Techniques

Below are a few key tools that I utilize on every project. They are meant to help plan and track project progress. We are your trusted Information Technology Project Management partner.

Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)

The United States Department of Defense (DOD) created the Work Breakdown Structure concept as part of the Polaris mobile submarine-launched ballistic missile project.

A Work Breakdown Structure is a hierarchical decomposition of the deliverables needed to complete a project. It breaks the deliverables down into manageable work packages that can be scheduled, costed and have people assigned to them. A Work Breakdown Structure is a standard project management tool and the basis for much project planning.

Gantt Chart

A Gantt chart is a popular project management bar chart that tracks tasks across time. When first developed in 1917, the Gantt chart did not show the relationships between the tasks originally. Since then, it has become common to track both time and inter-dependencies between tasks, which is now its everyday use.

Since their first introduction, Gantt charts have become an industry standard. They are an important project management tool used for showing the phases, tasks, milestones and resources needed as part of a project.

Testimonials

I had the pleasure of working with Tom at TEAM helping manage projects and guiding PMO methodologies. Tom has worked with clients in the SMB, Mid-Sized and Enterprise markets leveraging different methodologies based on client need and project complexity. I was particularly impressed by Tom’s ability to handle even the most challenging projects. His ability to understand the technical aspects of the project, the detailed requirements and keep the project on time and within budget is a huge asset.

Doug Thompson President and CEO TEAM Informatics

I have worked with Tom for many years and on many different projects – he is one of the very best project managers I have worked with in the past twenty years. He is extremely diligent, organized, professional, and customer-focused and manages all the different details of complex projects and large international teams efficiently and quietly.
I have also been impressed with Tom’s technical abilities across a range of PM tools (Jira, Replicon, Project, etc.) and content management and scripting platforms. I’ve learned a lot from Tom over the past years and projects and recommend him very highly and without reservation.

Raoul Miller Directory of Content Strategy

I had the opportunity to work in a different group at Union Pacific, as well as report directly to him at First National. Tom is a smart, foresighted and no-nonsense leader with a keen grasp on web technology. Tom’s leadership style fosters strong loyalty and support both ways between himself and his direct reports. Tom has an uncanny ability to quickly view wide-ranging and complex issues and identify the salient points, and then in turn be able to effectively communicate this to others no matter their background. In my work with him, he demonstrates the ability to lead projects and tactical website governance, even among individuals in diverse cross-functional workgroups representing IT, marketing, communications, division managers, and sponsoring content owner business units. Tom consistently excels due to his sense of vision, strong decision-making, organizational and communication skills, and his in-depth technical understanding.
